It's pretty nifty, though as with any attempt to attach Eva's "everything works in the exact way necessary to continue the plot, whatever that may be at any given moment" physics to actual hard and fast rules, the exact interpretations and compromises the devs made may not suit everybody. But that's what houserules are for.
Anywho, give it a try, and keep an eye on /tg/ around March 1st, so as to complain at the devs about anything you didn't like so they fix it before the next big release.

thee also is something called the border line edition, made by collection of former devs who got kicked off. it has less content but changes a few things for the better. i like to cherry pick between the 2 to get the best game

A while back I was pestering Michael Surbrook, the Hero System gamer guy, to watch NGE and then stat up the characters and add them to his assorted animoo-characters-rendered-in-HERO-system-stats page, for which you may google if curious.

It's been some time and I do not recall all the details, but I believe he felt NGE was too depressing to watch that closely.
