Semi-serious fanfiction question: which is more implausible, fanfiction in which,

1, Gendou Ikari suffers a sudden attack of sanity and gives up on the whole Third Impact thing and marries Ritsuko

Gendo giving up on the the 3rd impact is plausible, but his feelings for Ritsuko are somewhere between "disgust" and "nothing".

Ritsuko seems starved for attention enough to get with Shinji (maybe to make Gendo jealous). And you know Shinji wouldn't fight back and would enjoy it after getting over how "wrong" it is.

Both have their problems. Gendou Ikari doesn't really care very much about anyone but Yui, and while the lengths to which he is willing to go for a chance to see her again are impressive (in an insane way), he doesn't really feel much for the delicious Dr. Akagi.

The other inspired a hundred lemons, ranging from merely bad to deliberately disturbing (Adam Kadmon's "Witness," for example). Shinji and Ritsuko barely interact at all, ever, during the whole course of the series. One does not see sparks flying between them. One supposes that lonely miserable Shinji would go for it if she made any advances toward him. Kraven Ergeist's stalled fic "Whatever" posits Ritsuko Akagi being made Shinji's guardian instead of Misato. It's easy to imagine him becoming smitten with her, but the reverse? No.
