Personally, I love the surreality of it, esp. the use of the EVA fins. And that they actually have the in-universe science march on. After all, Science is the power of man! Instead of merely creating humans with the powers of monsters (classic EVAs), they now create synthetic monsters with little semblance of humanity (Nemesis Series) and monsters which superficially have human form (The Mk. Nine.) It seems like a logical continuation of the theme.
